At first glance readers of this site might assume the authors have developed a city/county/regional comprehensive plan proposal; read it and give some
feedback.
This is partly true.
However, a lot more is behind these concepts put forward at WSRQ.COM:
Let me explain.
Having spent the past 10 years traveling abroad I recently returned to
S.W. Florida and found a region I did not recognize !
Like it or not I also learned that many many individuals were receiving
huge amounts of money for their efforts at replacing what Sarasota was
with something they thought Sarasota should be.
Now I have no issue with the process of accomodating growth in itself, but
this idea of large sums of money being paid to people and institutuions for
in essence, making this region something it isn't, intrigued me.
My travels had proven to me, beyond any doubt, that growth management
at the local level had to be initiated, implimented and controlled by locals
for the ultimate benefit of locals.....anything otherwise had a strong ten-
dency to force the relocation of local populations, consequently creating
job losses. The love,life, children,businesses and life-force could not
be supported by imposed life-style alterations.(say SCAT ROUTE 39a is
eliminated by budget cuts...7 people use it daily...2 0f these people have
5 children/2 spouses 1 mother-in-law/2apartments...is there some
alternative way these 2 people can continue to contribute to our community?)
Probably not,short of moving to another area.
This understanding will be expanded upon in all the pages you see on WSRQ.
Hopefully they will coalesce into a complimentary,sustainable environment;
not only for those now implimenting the current changes/growth management,
instead for us and our decendents decendents.
So, after a year and a half of reading of, watching and listening to Sarasota
grow around me, I decided it was time to shoot for the stars-if Paul Allen
can put new human life into space why couldn't I put new life into those
"young at heart" left in our region....and quite candidly, earn what I had
while traveling ! NO LIE !!
THE VITALITY-THE VIABILITY-THE SURVIVAL OF ANYTHING : A POEM, A SONG,
A LESSON, A BUILDING, A BEACH, A LOVE AFFAIR, EXISTS ONLY THROUGH
THE TOTALITY OF THE LIFE-FORCES SURROUNDING IT.

The philosophy behind all this talk may someday be relavent, but as
E. Berne commiserated ..."there are really only three words in the
language: "YES", "NO" and "MAYBE" ".......

SPUR IN THE TRACKS, THE FORK IN THE ROAD, THE SAFEST DETOUR,
THE "MAYBE" IN YOUR THOUGHTS AND THE "YES" IN YOUR FUTURE !
